Its actually really simple. To make a cateogry page, all you have to do is click on “Add Category” on the bottom of the page, and press enter after typing it out. If the category doesn’t exist yet, once you click “Save” it will be created automatically.
I initially thought that it would be good the Wiki, but then decided to remove it because it could confuse the readers. Linking weapons of different classes is not a good idea. Having similar names also does not mean they are variants, the names could simply mean they are made by the same manufacturer.
With this, a new section called "See Also" should be created. This should be used to add weapons with similar names only (Example: Saiga and Saiga Bullpup). "Versions" and "See Also" should only be added to the regular version of the weapon and not other versions such as City.
I don’t really see how it would confuse the reader. I put it at the bottom of the page specifically to avoid confusion, and if a reader clicks on a link they should not be confused because if the page itself was designed properly, the reader will know that the variant they clicked on is a seperate weapon with a different name. If the reader is not able to tell, then the problem is not with the variants section, its with the page itself. If you still believe it would cause confusion, maybe rather than removing the section, further organization or specification could be implemented.
I also don’t quite understand what constitutes a “similar name.” Almost all of the weapons in the variants sections had very similar names.
I also would have appreciated it if you notified me of this issue before taking action, because editing will only be more difficult now. We also would have been able to come up with a better plan to prevent confusion had you done so. Now I’m in a tough situation. I don’t know if my next edits will be removed because I don’t know what your preferences are. I also think that all opinions should be taken into account here. Some people might not like the variants section, while others do. One page (M16A3) had a variants section created by another user, and therefore we can assume that at least some people agree with it.
Basically this: weapons must be from the same class and must have similar names. Saiga and Saiga Bullpup are good examples. But not MK 14 EBR and M14 Crazy Horse, because the names are very different. We try to avoid IRL as much as possible, so avoid adding IRL stuff unless it has a meaning in-game.
Also, don't be afraid to edit. If you're wrong about something, someone should correct it later.
